A cessation of hostilities in Syria’s five-year civil war has become unraveled in the last few days, and it is estimated that more than 250 people have reportedly been killed in the city of Aleppo within the last two weeks.

After a meeting in Geneva with United Nations and Arab diplomats, US Secretary of State John Kerry revealed that progress had been achieved on a plan to reduce violence in Aleppo but said that there was more work to be done and no guarantee of success.

Kerry said that the overall goal for Syria was to reinforce a broad truce that includes more ceasefire monitors to track any violations. He made it clear that: “we’re trying to press this as fast as possible but I don’t want to make any promises that can’t be kept.”
