The Nigerian Army has renewed its bilateral ties with the United States of America. The Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Olonisakin (pictured), said that the ties had led to several joint initiatives, including the commitment of the U.S. military to assist Nigeria in professionalizing its security forces through new training and equipment.

“As you are aware, bilateral relations between the USA and Nigeria have existed since Nigeria’s independence. This partnership has improved in many important areas, one of which is the security realm. The training which is being inaugurated is one of the series of military cooperation and initiatives for the mutual benefit of our country,” Olonisakin said.

The General went on add that: “the provision of appropriate equipment will enable this battalion to become a highly effective fighting force as this is the desire of the leadership of both the armed forces of Nigeria and the Nigerian government”.
