
On 13th January, the Chinese government announced that Peter Dahlin, a Swedish human rights campaigner, is being held in custody on suspicion of putting State security at risk.
Since Xi Jinping became the President of China in 2012, the country has seen an immense crackdown on civil society defenders and those that could be viewed by the Government as potential political opponents.
According to Amnesty International, over 240 lawyers and activists have been detained or questioned since the crackdown started in July 2015.
