South Africa to Withdraw From ICC

By

On 11th October, it was announced by The African National Congress (ANC), the ruling party in South Africa, that the country is to begin the procedure of leaving the International Criminal Court as they believe it has ceased to fulfill its mandate.

The ICC and South Africa have been embroiled in a recent dispute when the country’s government refused to arrest Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir when he was visiting Johannesburg. This is despite being ordered to detain al-Bashir by the ICC as he is charged with having commited war crimes.
