Free Event to be Held in London on International Day in Support of Victims of Torture 2017

On Monday 26th June, to mark this year’s International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, the International Bar Association and the UN Human Rights Office are hosting a debate on the importance of reaffirming torture as a human rights violation.

The discussion is to be moderated by Doctor Owen Bennet-Jones (BBC Radio World Service Newshour Host). It will run from 12:00-13:15, followed by a buffet lunch. The event is set to take place at The Great Hall, King’s College London, 
Strand, London, WC2R 2LS.

The following guest speakers will be in attendance: Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein (United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights), Baroness Helena Kennedy QC (UK barrister and Co-Chair of the International Bar Association’s Human Rights Institute), Juan E. Méndez (Former UN Special Rapporteur on Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment) and Doctor Mark Ellis (Executive Director, International Bar Association).

Whilst admission to the event is free, registration is essential.
