By

The BIICL (British Institute for International and Comparative Law) has published a report titled ‘The Use of Force in relation to Sovereignty Disputes over Land Territory’. The document has been released as part of a project that was recently completed by the BIICL on the legal significance of certain acts involving the use of force in relation to territorial disputes.

The report offers a detailed analysis of the rules regulating the threat or use of force between States in international law and examines how these rules operate with regards to territory. The report examines a selection of territorial disputes to clarify the legal obligations that bind States involved in such disputes and the consequences for parties that violate them.
