The British Institute of International and Comparative Law (BIICL) has announced it has organized a series of events that will take place throughout May 2017 which aim to debate and explore the consequences of the UK leaving the European Union. Particular focus is to be given to the issues of trade, business and law, and how Brexit will impact upon these areas.
The three upcoming events are listed below:
Doing Business in a Post-Brexit Europe: What of the Single Market?
Date & Time: 3rd May 2017, 16:00-18:00 (Registration open from 15:30)
Followed by a reception

Admission Cost: Free but attendees must register beforehand
This event intends to address the UK’s relationship to the single market, post-Brexit. Some of the questions it hopes to answer include:
- Can the Single Market continue to function without the UK and vice-versa?
- Is it possible to implement temporary mobility solutions until withdrawal negotiations are completed?
- Implications for free movement of workers, or more generally, of non-labour mobile EU migrants?
- Can goods, services and capital be freely exchanged in a deeply integrated market without free movement of workers?

Cross-border Insolvencies post Brexit

A variety of guest speakers will discuss how insolvency and restructuring will be affected by Brexit, and how to best preserve the UK’s status as an attractive jurisdiction for businesses. The topics focused upon will include: Forum and law shopping post Brexit; Cross-frontier recognition; Enforcement and judicial assistance for foreign insolvency proceedings; The recognition of the scheme of arrangement in the post-Brexit era; and: Brexit or not – Europe is going all Chapter 11, What does this mean for European restructuring?
