100 Series Rules: 14th Combating Piracy Conference Hamburg 24 April 2013

Steven Kay QC and David Hammond attended the 14th Combating Piracy Conference in Hamburg on the 24 April 2013 http://piracy-europe.com where they lectured on the latest developments to the 100 Series Rules for the Use of Force (RUF) for the commercial maritime industry. The first update was provided for by David Hammond, accompanied by the news that the 100 Series had been successfully submitted that day to the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) for inclusion in the forthcoming Maritime Safety Committee (MSC 92) meeting. Steven Kay QC then provided a comprehensive background legal briefing as to the basis for the international “necessary and reasonable” test for the use of force in self-defence, as well as covering the key topics of Joint Enterprise and Corporate Homicide and Corporate Manslaughter.
