Anthony Lake, the Executive Director of UNICEF, has expressed the organisation’s total commitment and support to collaborating with the African Union on the education of young girls and the protection of children within the framework of Africa’s Agenda 2063. Mr Lake and the AU Commission Chairperson, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, agreed on these areas of focus when they met in person earlier this week.
Mr Lake was impressed with Agenda 2063, noting that it was in sync with the Sustainable Development Goals, Agenda 2030. He remarked that, “Africa’s Agenda 2063 provides an opportunity for the transformation of two generations of girls in Africa.”
Both leaders agreed that the AU and UNICEF intend to enhance their partnership by developing and implementing a programmed plan of action around Agenda 2063 across the Africa continent over the coming years.
